If you needed another reason to top up your glass of Chardy, this October is Wine Month in Orange. The Central Tablelands city is famed for its cool-climate wines, full festival calendar and thriving foodie culture, so you know this month is going to be a good one!

Orange Wine Month is a celebration of the young winemaking region’s unique terroir, thriving food and wine scene and talented local winemakers. The events on offer range from wine tastings and meet and greets with winemakers, to scenic strolls, educational talks, family picnics and sumptuous four course dinners. Sign us up for everything!

The festival usually runs for a week but this year Orange is taking things up a notch, with a whole month full of COVID-safe events for wine lovers.

Some of the festival’s signature events including the annual Orange Wine Show, Wine in the Vines and the night market were all casualties of COVID cancellations. Fortunately, by spacing out the events over a month, the town was able to pull together a full program of small-scale and virtual events which meet the NSW government’s restrictions.

With more than 40 events on the program, you might need to pace yourself to make it through the month! Need some help picking from all those delightful, vino-filled events? Here are some we’ve got our eyes on:

Yoga in the Vines followed by Brunch and Bubbles at Stockman's Ridge Wines

Sangrias at Sunset on the Montoro Wines deck

Red Wine Blending Course at Dindima

Boree Lane Ramble through the vineyards

If you can’t make it to town for the festival, Orange Mountain Estate will bring the cellar door experience to your home, with a Zoom tasting session at home complete with six wines to sample.

There will also be a farmers market where you can stock up on fresh seasonal produce to enjoy at home with all those bottles of wine you’re bound to buy. The market will be held on Saturday 10 October with over 60 stalls featuring flowers and plants, fruit and vegetables, artisan bread, cheeses, meats, olives and olive oil, gourmet preserves and free range eggs. Delicious!

Orange Wine Month runs for the whole month of October.
