Robe on South Australia’s Limestone Coast is famed for being one of the most picturesque towns in the state. It’s also building a reputation as a great foodie haunt. If you’re looking for the perfect place to start the day, look no further. Here's my guide to Robe’s tastiest breakfast spots.
The Adventurous Spoon (above)
With its loyal following of locals and regular holidaymakers, the Adventurous Spoon gets a big thumbs up for breakfast. Housed in a little stone cottage, it creatively offers up traditional fare with a touch of difference - like the bacon and eggs served in a brioche burger with caramelised fries, aioli and Taka Tala sauce. Other menu highlights include smashed avocado, Shepherd's Lane and Hahndorf bacon, chilli scrambled eggs, and double chocolate hazelnut bread. There are also daily specials such as savoury donuts and chocolate and almond pastries. And, to wash it all down? If you’re feeling brave (or thirsty) the drinks menu includes a Breakfast Daiquiri, Wasabi Mary or Gin Mimosa. For the more conventional amongst us, the coffee and tea are great!
No 4 (above)
No. 4 has thought long and hard on how to make all its customers feel really welcome – including our four-legged friends. The result is a cafe environment and menu that'll work for everyone. There's a focus on sourcing and sharing the best possible local produce – with breakfast options including porridge, pancakes, a vegetarian Buddha bowl (grain mix, roasted seasonal vegetables, house hummus with a poached egg & chilli mirin dressing) and a grazing board. For your hungry dogs there's poochy kibble, pawleo fix, hot digity dogs and much more. The Wag & Bone menu is second to none - and worth reading, even if it’s just to congratulate the owners of this one-of-a-kind cafe on their creativity!
The Union Cafe (above)
Offering smoothies, breakfast bowls and wraps, The Union Café is in the safe hands of new owners and boasting a stunning refit. The baked goods are wholesome and delicious, and the menu breakfast diverse, including dishes such as Chimichangas (above) with pulled Mexican chicken, brown rice and cheese wrapped in a fried burrito with sour cream, avocado, corn and tomato salsa. Regulars love this place for its welcoming vibe that includes your dog too!
