The top foodie places to visit in the Coles Bay/Freycinet Peninsula area are crowd-favourite hubs of delicious delights, all offering a selection of Tasmania’s very best produce: from the freshest seafood to the best grass-fed beef, home-made jams, berry ice-cream and delicious cheeses not to mention the best wines and beers the island has to offer. Swansea’s Homestead Piermont Restaurant is a true labour of love, incorporating the best organic produce from neighbouring farms and creating seasonal and totally inspiring menus. From the best oysters and seafood to grass-fed beef and gorgeous vegetables grown in Launceston especially for the restaurant, all exquisitely prepared using home-grown micro-herbs and that special touch that’s awarded Piermont’s head-chef a multitude of awards. 

The understated elegance and stellar seaside location, coupled with the unrivalled foodie delights, make Piermont a top choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Not the cheapest restaurant in town but if you’re looking for that special treat then rest assured the Homestead won’t disappoint.

Gala Estate Vineyard – the perfect place for wine 

The Cellar Door of the Gala Estate Vineyard is an attraction in its own right, with the historic weatherboard cottage once home to the Castle family for over six decades. Revered for creating extraordinary Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir – the latter the vineyard’s crowning glory – Gala Estate pries itself on boasting the most ideal location in all of Tasmania, only 500m from the same 42-degree latitude parallel which has made France’s Burgundy such an incomparable wine-growing region. 

So stop by on your way to the Freycinet National Park and admire the most charming Cellar Door you’ll probably ever visit. Enjoy a comprehensive tasting session, check out the stunning woollen throws on sale (the estate includes a sheep farm) and take home a superb taste of Tasssie’s very best drops.

Ge`ographe Restaurant – ideal for groups with varied tastes (image above)

A couple of restaurateur brothers hailing from the northwest of Tasmania, where they opened their first digs, Ge’ographe is a family-owned foodie mecca in Coles Bay, renowned from its warm hospitality and fantastic gastronomic creations. This fully-licenced hub of yumminess serves up wood fired pizzas, fresh local seafood and a host of international specialties, completed by one of Tasmania’s very best espresso bars. 

With its outdoor decking offering glorious coastal views and a varied menu that’ll satisfy even the most discerning of palates, Ge’ographe offers casual feasting (beware, portions are HUGE!) when you’re out and about exploring the Freycinet Peninsula. 

The Pondering Frog – perfect for the ultimate sweet indulgence (and then some)

Bicheno’s best dessert hub is most famous for its homemade berry ice cream yet, to be honest, their berry pancakes, homemade jams and cherry liqueurs aren’t exactly average, if you catch our drift. If you’re in the mood for a sweet treat that’s impossible to beat then this contemplative frog is your prince charming! Right off the A3, the Pondering Frog is super convenient for a quick mid-afternoon refuelling stop for your taste buds and, in case you’re travelling with friends and they’re into a more savoury mood, convince them with the promise of surf & turf hamburgers, fish & chips, as well as pies, salads and toasted sandwiches. This place has it all! 

Freycinet Marine Farm – for lovers of seafood (above)

The freshest seafood in the Freycinet Peninsula is served up by the Freycinet Marine Farm, in Coles Bay, harvesters of world-class oysters, mussels, rock lobsters, scallops and abalone. At the farm’s produce gate, you can not only purchase delicious seafood to cook at your self-contained holiday rental but can also order freshly-cooked seafood and enjoy your feast on picnic tables provided. If you’re a huge fan of shellfish then this place is simply unmissable. 

Organize a private tour of the oyster farm if you're travelling with a group of friends or just come and treat your taste-buds. Open daily from 9am to 5pm (kitchen takes its last orders at 4.30pm) in summer and closes one hour earlier during the winter months between June and September.

Wineglass Bay Providore – to stock up on sensational treats

Offering the very best foodie delights that Tasmania has to offer, Wineglass Bay Providore – part of the Freycinet Lodge located within the Freycinet National Park – is the undisputed foodie jewel of Tasmania’s East Coast. Open from 7am to 9pm, 7 days a week, Wineglass Bay Providore is the go-to place if you wish to fill your boot with delectable cheeses, olives, jams, fruits and home-made treats. Perfect if you’re renting a self-contained holiday home or if you need to take home some seriously delectable souvenirs your family and friends will love. 

The lodge is open to daily visitors and do note that if you’re only heading into the park to shop at the Wineglass Providore or dine at the lodge’s Bay Restaurant, you do not need to purchase a national park entry ticket. This foodie boutique stocks amazing produce and products from all over the island so it’s perfect if your visit to the Tasmania is short and sweet.
