Recently The Weekender caught up with Jemma Mrdak from A Stylish Moment to find out her top tips for a great weekend in Canberra. A Stylish Moment is Jemma's award winning blog, covering all things style, fashion, travel, healthy & beauty.
What do you love about living in Canberra?
I love that Canberra truly is the bush capital. I live just 15 minutes from the centre of Canberra, but also right near a nature reserve where there is beautiful bushland!
We have some of the countries best galleries and museums which I love to visit frequently, and I also love how much Canberra has grown its hospitality scene in the last few years. There are new bars, cafes and restaurants popping up all over the city each week! Another reason why I love Canberra is because it means I have been able to grow my blog and my business, due to the incredibly supportive network of people that live here. It really is like a big country town.
Where are your favourite places to visit?
Living Southside means that I frequent Weston Creek, Woden, Manuka and Kingston areas quite often. Whether it for a morning chai latte (no coffee for me!) or breakfast at Lava in Weston Creek, lunch and drinks at Public or dinner at Bar Rochford; getting out and enjoying the great hospitality of this city is something that I try to do on a regular basis.
I am a sucker for a bit of retail therapy, so you’ll often find me checking out the extensive range of stores in the Canberra Centre, or admiring all the gorgeous things at Designer Op Shop Emporium in Fyshwick.
When it comes to other attractions, I find that when I need some down time I like to spend an hour or two at the National Gallery, as it can be quite soothing for the soul. I love that there is so much to see, and the quiet galleries make it great for thinking time as you take in the beautiful art.
Any hidden secrets/tips when visiting?
If you’re new to Canberra, I would definitely suggest seeing the sights via a Go Boat (image above) on Lake Burley Griffin, especially on a warm, sunny day.
Another great day to explore Canberra’s suburbs is via bicycle, as we are very cycle friendly here.
Also if you’re after good sushi - Mee’s Sushi in Manuka is where you need to go! Another tip if you’re visiting Canberra would be to try and explore a different area each day. Canberra suburbs each have their own little shops and cafes, so ensure that you try and visit as many as you can!
Where would we find you at 10am on a Sunday?
You would definitely find me taking my dog Rex for a walk around the area in which I live (Curtin), and then stopping for a chai latte at Red Brick at Curtin Shops, or heading to Urban Pantry for their delicious smashed avocado!
