A summer Christmas is its own unique joy, and one of the nicest parts - if you ask us - is being able to shop outside in the summer weather without the worries of catching a chill or rugging up in jackets and coats. Yes, we’re talking about Christmas markets! It pays to look further than Melbourne when it comes to Victoria’s Christmas markets, and today we want to share a few of our favourites regional options.
Beaumaris Victorian Christmas Weekend - 23-24 November
An entire weekend to explore the crafts and goodies of Beaumaris to your heart’s content is just what you need with Christmas around the corner! Embrace the Christmas spirit with lovely decorations, an enormous range of craft stalls, charity stalls, and a variety of activities for Christmas-lovers of all ages. Make sure any kids (and kids at heart) keep their eye out for Santa who will be attending as well!
Pleasant Street Christmas Fest - 6 December
The Pleasant Street Christmas Fest is more than just a Christmas market, it’s a Christmas celebration fest. Having run for a few years, this market has definitely found its feet, and has a lot on offer. Check out the many stalls for your Christmas shopping, as well as show bags, rides and fun Christmas activities like Santa’s cave, all contained in a great venue on the shores of Lake Wendouree!
Mornington Racecourse Twilight Market - 14 December
If there’s one Christmas market you definitely don’t want to miss, it’s the Mornington Racecourse Market. Running twice a month, with an extra special serving of market goodness come Christmas time, the Mornington Racecourse Twilight Market is the ultimate spot to get your Christmas shopping sorted, and enjoy the festivities. Hundreds of stalls with everything from handmade crafts to gourmet foods and seasonal produce, there’s definitely something here for everyone.
Torquay Cowrie Market - 16 December
Heading down to the Surf Coast might be the best choice for finishing off your Christmas shopping, with crafty markets like this one awaiting you. Founded by the Surf Coast Arts Collective, the Torquay Cowrie Market is a regular market that gets even more special for its Christmas blowout. With a focus on handmade and handcrafted, as well as eco-friendly, and with two stages for local live music, there’s lots to love here.
Meeniyan Square Twilight Markets - Fridays in December
Make your Christmas shopping that much more enjoyable by dedicating your entire December to the process in this small Southern Gippsland town. Meeniyan has a new open-air cultural precinct, which plays host to this delightful market featuring the best local craftspeople, talented designers, delicious street food, and some truly impressive brewers and winemakers. It really is the full package for getting in a festive state of mind.
Castlemaine Artists Market - 20 December
A special twilight edition of the Castlemaine Artists Market puts some talented makers in the spotlight for a potential feature on your Christmas gift list. Emu Plains Pre-Christmas Market - 21 December
This market might a bit close to the line only four days before Christmas, but all the better for getting that last minute shopping completed! Emu Plains really puts on something special for their pre-Christmas market, with almost 250 of Melbourne’s most creative makers showing off their best. There’s also gourmet foods, with lots of Christmas treats, live music all day long, activities including a jumping castle, and a visit from the fat man himself.
Golden Plains Twilight Markets- 20 December
Located just north of Geelong, and a year-round stop on the Moorabool Valley Taste Trail, the Golden Plains farmers market has a special twilight Christmas event to help you bring the best of Victoria’s produce and goodies to your festive tables. There’s lots of gourmet tastes, which make for great gifts or Christmas dinner delicacies, as well as loads of last-minute present options and delightful cocktails.
