Ahhh, the Barossa Valley. Famed for world-class wines, it’s fitting that food worth singing about should follow closely behind. When you plan your next Barossa weekend, make sure you consider your foodie options as carefully as you do the wineries!
Barossa Farmer’s Market
Rise and shine, beautiful! When coffee calls, and you’re ready to stretch those legs a little, the Saturday Barossa Farmer’s Market is the place for you. Open every Saturday, and offering all the delights you have come to expect from a weekend market, you’ll find over 50 stalls peddling everything from metwurst and meats, flowers and cakes, fruits and vegetables, to bread and cheese. There’s even a breakfast bar ready to roll for those who would rather be cooked for than gather the (excellent quality) ingredients! Why not, you’re on holiday.
Open Saturdays, 7.30 am - 11.30 am. Located on the corner of Nuriootpa & Stockwell Roads, Angaston (held in the large sheds behind Vintner’s Bar and Grill. Parking available next to restaurant).
Barossa Cheese Company
When you're walking along the main street of Angaston, it's hard to miss the charming façade of the Barossa Cheese Company. This multi-award winning manufacturer of over 20 types of artisan Barossa cheese offers tastings, tea and cheese pairings, and delicious cheese plates.
Victoria from the Cheese Company loves what she does - "We will always be an artisan producer, sourcing milk from local dairies and creating cheese imbued with the character of the locale and passion of the maker.
The Cheese cellar is open 7 days.
Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop + The Farm Eatery
If you’re a fan of Maggie Beer (and who isn't!), this is a Barossa must-stop. Perched overlooking the property, time stands still at Maggie’s one-stop flavour shop. Whether you're in the mood for a coffee or a platter, or want to pop into the Eatery for lunch, there’s always something new going on here. Time your visit for the 2.00 pm cooking demonstrations, or collect some of Maggie’s famous preserves, pastes, pates and more for the road.
Open 7 days from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm. Located on Pheasant Farm Road, accessed from Seppeltsfield Rd then take Samuel Road.
An Italian cooking school and enoteca in Angaston, Casa Carboni was established by Fiona and Matteo Carboni in 2012 after moving to Australia from Parma, Northern Italy. Enjoy an authentic Italian experience brought to life with Barossan produce, with recipes inspired by Matteo’s Nonna Pia and his homeland. Designed for intimate groups of up to 6 people, classes run for either 1.5 or 3 hours, finishing off with feasting on the dishes you’ve created from scratch and a glass of good Barossa vino. Bellissimo!

Butcher, Baker, Winemaker Trail
A little treasure map and a little choose your own adventure, the Barossa Butcher, Baker, Winemaker trail is designed to get you exploring every nook and cranny of the Barossa region. Simply start by purchasing a Trail Voucher book for $65 at the Barossa or Gawler Visitor Information Centres or at the Corner Bakery Shop in Williamstown.
Then redeem your first voucher for a fabulous souvenir hamper (for you to keep!), which contains a stainless-steel cheese knife, mini chopping board, napkins, dipping bowl and iconic local treats, including - Kurianda olive oil and bush dukkah, Barossa Valley Cheese Company cheese round (Baby Bert or St Kits), Gully Gardens dried apricots, Barossa Country Biscuits cheese discs and Steiny’s traditionally smoked bierstick.

Artisans of the Barossa
Located on the outskirts of Tanunda, Artisans of the Barossa is home to seven small wine producers and a modern open-plan relaxed restaurant. The Tasting Room and Harvest Kitchen, is the Barossa’s largest wine bar and combines modern architectural style with stunning views of the valley floor.
Artisans offers a great wine tasting experience – seven individual wineries, with different winemaking styles representing the breadth and diversity of the Barossa, all demonstrating in their own way their commitment to making inspirational wines that uphold the culture and traditions of the Barossa. Hentley Farm Restaurant
Choosing from the Discovery or Du Jour menu will be about the only decision you have to make as you relax into a long lunch at Hentley Farm’s famous restaurant set in tastefully restored stables. Priding themselves on working with Barossa locals to deliver world-class meals using world-class produce, executive chef Lachlan Colwill (formerly of much-missed The Manse) heads a team of passionate Barossans that will take you through a lunch to be remembered.

St Hugo Restaurant
A collaboration between Executive Chef Mark McNamara and Chief Winemaker Dan Swincer, the dining experience at St Hugo's is the ultimate expression of fine food and wine. Indulge in a four or eight-course tasting menu, designed to complement the power and elegance of St Hugo wines, or book the Chef’s Table Experience, which includes a tour of the vineyard and kitchen garden.
A wine-centric menu, each dish begins with the wine, with seasonal produce then layered to build a dish. Perfection!
Lunch Thursday - Monday from 12.00 pm. Dinner Friday & Saturday from 6.00 pm. Four courses with wine, $120 per person.
A departure from winery restaurants, Ferment delivers outstanding Modern Southeast Asian cuisine to the Barossa. This all comes courtesy of much-loved Vietnamese chef and owner, Tuoi Do. Loaded with herbs from her parents’ garden, and paired with a wine list guided by Tuoi Do’s partner, Grant Dickson of Rockford Wines, dine like the locals and enjoy hearty, fresh Southeast Asian as it should be.

Appellation Restaurant @ The Louise
A bucket list restaurant! Beautiful views over Stonewell Vineyards and toward the Barossa ranges set the scene for the Appellation experience. Executive chef Ryan Edwards and his team’s focus on creating menus using fresh, seasonal and regional food, with first class service, will ensure a memorable dining experience.
All the dishes feature the best local produce in peak freshness, highlighting seasonal fruits, vegetables and herbs from the restaurant’s kitchen garden and farm-gate growers nearby. Choose four courses from typically 16 or more selections, with wine pairing suggestions for each course.

Fino Restaurant @ Seppeltsfield
Established in 1851, Seppeltfield has been going through a spectacular transformation of late. Together with its picturesque grounds and striking historic buildings, the estate has been re-imagined to deliver a vibrant and exciting village for wine, food, art, craft and historical experiences.
Opened in 2014, Fino Restaurant and Food bar is the newest addition in the re-development of the c1900 National Trust Cellar Door. Delivering an approachable, yet delightful modern and local menu, prices are somewhat more approachable than other Barossa institutions, while maintaining a fantastic standard. A slice of Barossa history turned new-age icon that deserves a visit.
