February 3, 2019 / By Oceana Setaysha

Wine-lovers take note: There’s a festival on the horizon that simply cannot be missed. A celebration of one of the premium wine regions in NSW, with a thriving industry and some of the best Australian wines on the market.

Yes, we’re talking about the Orange Wine Festival. Situated in the town of Orange just 3.5 hours drive west of Sydney, the Orange Wine Festival is a two-week long extravaganza of wine tastings, markets, events and dining opportunities. Aimed at drawing attention to a region too long ignored, the festival is a fantastic chance to explore the unique city and the many tastes on offer. Between 12 and 21 October, Orange will come alive for visitors and showcase the incredible food and wine culture that now flourishes in this region.

The Festival Program

With the festival taking place over two weeks, including two weekends, it’s no surprise there’s a lot on offer at the Orange Wine Festival. All told there are some 90 events on offer, from crowd favourites to new additions. Let’s look at a few that both wine beginners and aficionados will be sure to love.

The Vino Express (both weekends)

Marketing itself as a slow tour through the Orange wine festival and surrounding region, the Vino Express is a train adventure like few others. The three-day experience includes return train fare from Sydney to Orange in a dedicated Wine Festival carriage, an on-board event to introduce visitors to the area with a wine tasting, two nights in 4-star accommodation amidst the action, daily breakfasts sampling Orange’s best food, boutique cellar door visits for exquisite wine tasting, and so much more! Single share and twin share tickets are available.

Orange Wine Show Tasting (Friday 12th October)

Taste all the wines on offer at the Orange Wine Show in one place, including trophy and medal winning wines, and judge them for yourself. Held at the Hotel Canobolas Grand Ballroom, tickets to the event include generous grazing platters offering the best in the region’s local produce. Additional to this is a masterclass, to truly hone your skill as a wine taster.

Orange Wine Festival Night Market (Friday 19th October)

If your idea of heaven is combining your love of wine and food with markets and the great outdoors, put the Orange Wine Festival Night Market on your to-do list. With over 50 stalls offering award winning Orange wines, the market allows visitors to take a culinary journey through the Orange region. Located in Robertson Park, there’s ample space to spread out and enjoy the long communal tables and local music, as well as family-friendly catering and activities.

Wine in the Vines (Saturday 20th October)

Exploring the vines has never been easier than with this roving lunch, a favourite Orange Wine Festival event in the making. Get to know the local growers and wine makers and gain insight into the process behind those wines you’ve come to love. An inclusive all-day trip with ample tastings of wine and food, tickets even include a bottle of the best to take home with you!
