Review - Milk Haus in Milton, NSW

May 10, 2019 / By Andrew

After yet another week battling through Sydney’s crazy traffic (we need better infrastructure Gladys, not just promises) it was a pleasure to escape to Mollymook to breathe the sea air and recharge the batteries.

Taking advantage of the glorious weather I headed to the beach for a Saturday morning surf on the longboard, relishing the promise of warmer days to come. Having developed a well earned appetite my attention naturally turned towards eating options.

Nearby Milton is filled with an array of culinary delights, ranging from high end restaurants like St Isidores to the iconic Pilgrims Cafe which has been serving vegetarian classics for the last 38 years.

But this time I took a short drive out of town (4 km) to the aptly named Milk Haus cafe. Located in the old Woodstock cheese factory Milk Haus is a whole food joint which serves fresh simple fare made from local produce and promises to leave you feeling energised. It does not disappoint. With chickens and veggies growing next to the car park and a milking shed just next door you know that the food is going to be fresh.

I opted for a hearty serve of the pork and beef meatloaf with spiced piquant sauce, toasted sourdough and green tomato chutney. The serving was generous and brimming with flavour. I felt all the healthier by washing it down with a pineapple, cucumber, mint and kaffir lime juice. My partner went for the very healthy beetroot curry with spiced white cheese, garlic flatbread and wilted greens. Her report was very positive.

If you are looking for friendly service and healthy local produce cooked simply to bring out their natural flavours then the Milk Haus is well worth a visit.
