We know just how frustrating it can be to arrive in a truly beautiful destination like Bright, Victoria, only to open your weather app and see nothing but rain ahead! Many of those wonderful outdoor activities might have to be put on hold, but that’s okay! Bright still has many fun and interesting things to do when the weather takes a turn for the worse, from catching a movie at the local cinema to reading a great new book in a cool café. Let’s take a look at things to do in Bright on a rainy day.
Catch a movie at the local cinema
The Cloud Nine Cinema is both stylish and comfortable – it’s the perfect place to spend a rainy afternoon in Bright. Enjoy a glass of wine during the movie (and some fresh popcorn, of course), then sip a warm drink after the movie before you head back outside. Looking for a little romance? Grab one of the sofas in the cinema so you can snuggle up with your loved one during the movie! Make sure you check the website for session times beforehand as most movies play once per day.
Tip: Try to get a seat in rows D, E, or F for the best views of the screen.
Explore the unexpectedly wonderful side streets
From the main street (Gavan Street), you can find a number of brilliant side streets filled with beautiful interior décor, trendy clothing, lovely giftware and indoor plants. Wander down Barnard Street and be sure to drop into Bowerbird, Bright Forest and Star Road Trader. If you particularly love Christmas, then you need to stop by Country Heart and Home, (you’ll see why!). Down Ireland Street, you’ll find Journey, The Sweet Retreat and Noofies. While you’re there, be sure to grab a coffee and vegan treat at What You Eat Cafe .
Get a massage at the Glow Day Spa
Inside the gorgeous Glow Day Spa, it’s warm, relaxing and cosy. Pick from a relaxation massage, hot stone massage, or essential oil aromatic massage and if you’re pregnant you can try the pregnancy massage. The ladies here are really lovely and professional – you’ll leave feeling relaxed, pampered and calm. If getting a massage isn’t your thing, be sure to check out the treatment menu for the full range of options from pedicures to facials.
Tip: Head next door to Ginger Baker Cafe for a delicious drink and something to eat after your appointment!
Enjoy a delicious, long lunch
When it comes to great food, Bright will have you spoiled for choice. Get your friends together and visit one of the local cafes or restaurants for a fun and tasty lunch. Feeling hungry for Japanese food? You have to try Katsu. The Asian Buddha Bowl is one of our particular favourites!
If you’re hankering for a burger (and an awesome atmosphere to boot), then Tomahawks should be your go-to. In need of a good, old-fashioned pie? Head straight over to Gum Tree Pies - hand-made, award-winning and with a huge range of flavours to choose from. And if you really just feel like great coffee and tasty pastry, then you can’t go past Sixpence Coffee's Pocket Full of Rye.
Visit the Eurobin Falls
Feeling adventurous, despite the rain? Head to the Eurobin Falls (an easy 20-minute drive from Bright) and enjoy the incredible greenery and majestic waterfalls. Take the walk slowly as it can get a little slippery, particularly on the rocky steps from the Lower Eurobin Falls to the Upper Eurobin Falls.
You can skip the longer trip to the Upper Falls if you like, but it’s definitely worth seeing if you have the energy! If the rain isn’t too bad, you might like to take a camera as you’ll find plenty of opportunities to shoot stunning photos.
Tip: This spot can get quite busy during summer, so be sure to go early. The best part about some rain? You might even get this beautiful place to yourself.
Buy a book at the Bright Bookshop
This gorgeous, little bookshop is a wonderful place to escape the rain with stylish wooden floors and rows of interesting reads. Browse through the great selection of books, choose a one (or two!), then head to your favourite café to read for a while. If you’re not sure where to go, try the Blackbird Cafe, just a 1-minute walk from the bookshop. It has a lovely atmosphere and great coffee (and tasty scones) to pair with your new book!
We hope you’ve enjoyed discovering a few fun things to do when the rain starts pouring in Bright. It just goes to show – you don’t need blue skies to have a really great time.
