For bread lovers— the selection at Milkwood is like no other, boasting stoneground sourdough, levain blanc, pane pugliese, olive vienna, thyme and olive flat bread, fruit loaf, fig and walnut and a whole lot more.
For the sweet toothed among us, delights such as an apple tart, flourless orange cake, lemon yogurt tea cake, macadamia nut tart, brandy-soaked prune and custard tart, cardamon pistachio yoghurt cake and a good, old-fashioned selection of pastries and danishes should set your taste-buds tingling! For savoury lovers, tarts, pizzas, savoury muffins, sausage rolls and quiches will be right up your alley.
A beautiful family-owned bakery in Milton, this Flour Water Salt is one of a string of stunning bakery cafes that pepper the South Coast and surrounds. As the name suggests, artisan sourdough is the beating heart of the business—made from just organic flour, purified water and Australian sea salt.
The range on offer at Flour Water Salt is small but punchy, sticking to what they know and know they excel at. All of the bread is shaped and moulded by hand, then left to rise for hours in willow baskets and baked to produce authentic European handcrafted sourdough. Produce used in the cafes is organic and local where possible and aims to hero seasonal ingredients.
If you’re not able to get down there for a while, rest assured that you can still experience the magic of the bakery via Flour Water Salt’s online store. It’s positively brimming with pantry essentials including jams, pickles, artisanal oils and even mouth-watering jars of dulce de leche. Drool!
Another Milton gem, Heritage Bakery is a traditional Aussie bakery, particularly renowned for its pies. We’re talking all-butter puff pastry made from scratch each day, locally-sourced ingredients and the freshest fillings. Pie and pasty favourites include steak and guinness, steak and green peppercorn, spinach and feta, veggie korma, pork and apple and more.
Freshly made salads, wraps and baguettes are also on offer, alongside locally-roasted Orphan’s Cup coffee and a mouth-watering range of cakes and pastries (lamingtons, caramel slice, lemon tarts, flans, danishes, orange and polenta cake; we’re talkin’ about you!).
